Branch Emblem - Coast Guard
The Coast Guard was established in 1790. It operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime and can be transferred to the Department of the Navy during time of war. The Coast Guard is unique among our military branches in that it is exempt from the Posse Comitatus Act and its officers have federal law enforcement powers. The Coast Guard motto is "Semper Paratus", which means "Always Ready", and our charm is a .925 sterling silver Coast Guard Shield.
