This September, Nomadés will celebrate 15 years in business. 15 years has given us so many great things; growth, friendships, hard work, tears, laughter, tons of charms, sharing stories and charming memories. But, with all the great things, 15 years in the sterling silver business has inevitably brought some tarnish. That’s right...it’s sterling silver charms and they will tarnish.

We wanted to take this opportunity to let you in on a few DIY ways to keep your sterling silver charms polished and bright.

THINGS YOU CAN EXPECT

 .925 sterling silver can tarnish, not as bad as .999 silver, but it can.

If you live in dry climates or high altitudes, we see you Fort Irwin, your charms will tarnish at a slower rate.

If you live by the beach, we are so happy for you and not at all green with envy, but that climate and that humidity can increase tarnish. It’s the price you pay!

Avoid wearing your sterling silver jewelry in chlorine and salt water.

DIY CLEANING

We have an amazing sterling silver polishing/cleaning cloth. We recommend you purchase one of these to use on your charm bracelet or feel free to purchase one from your local store. For mild tarnish, the silver polishing cloth works great.

We suggest you store your charm bracelet inside of the polishing cloth when you are not wearing it. This will help to keep your bracelet and charms tarnish free, especially if you live in that beachy paradise we mentioned earlier.

Let’s say you have a little more tarnish on your bracelet, DO NOT use liquid silver polish or cleaner, that stuff is for your Mawmaw’s Silver Tea Service, not your sterling silver charms.

You can use a little baking soda, salt and water paste with a soft bristled toothbrush to remove the more stubborn tarnish. Rinse with warm water and follow up with a cleaning cloth.
