3/2 Camp Lejeune – First activated in 1941 and currently based out of Camp Lejeune, NC, 3rd Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment has since served in many engagements around the world. Also, known as the “Betio Bastards”, they earned their nickname in World War II, fighting on the islet of Betio during the Battle of Tarawa.
